Dear Lime Rock Baptist Church Friends,

The Rhode Island State Council of Churches is presenting  a memorial event to remember the nearly 4,000 Rhode Islanders who lost their lives to COVID.   Rhode Island Remember:  A COVID Memorial, will open with a formal memorial ceremony, Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am.  There will be a white flag display on the front lawn of the State House for the entire week, until the evening of July 2nd, when we will again close with a moment of prayer.

This project is sponsored by the Council of Churches in collaboration with Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church and in partnership with the artist, Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg.  It will replicate her “In America:  Remember” project that appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  Our program will also include a White Flag display on the lawn of the State House with 4,000 flags, one for each Rhode Islander who died from COVID.

The project will present an opportunity for people to remember their loved one who was lost to COVID.  There will be a Chaplaincy Tent for people who may wish to sit in the shade and say a prayer.  Visitors will, also,  have an opportunity to dedicate a flag to someone they’ve lost.

As President of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches I am pleased to welcome you to join us.  Please encourage family and friends to attend the Memorial Service and visit the display.  The formal opening of the project on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am.

Blessings,
Gene
