Taizé Style Prayer Service

  • Lime Rock Baptist Church 1075 Great Road Lincoln, RI, 02865 United States (map)

Lime Rock Baptist Church will begin our observance of Lent with a Taizéstyle meditative prayer service on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, at 7:00pm. We have used this format during Lent before. However, just in case you are wondering, this is a quiet meditative service of prayer and song, with short repetitive hymns.

Taizé is a tiny village hidden away in the Burgundy region of France, not far from the town of Cluny. Since 1940, it has been the home of an ecumenical community of brothers, for whom prayer is the center of their lives. Founded by Br. Roger, from the Swiss Reform Church, it is a community made up of members from various denominations. Their thrice daily prayer service includes music that has evolved in a unique style of repetitive short musical phrases that can be easily memorized by participants. We have used a few of these on Sunday.

Lent is a time to disrupt our often busy and hectic routines and just sit in God’s presence. Please feel welcome to join us in a quiet evening of prayer. Since Taizé has a multi-denominational footprint, you could comfortably invite friends.

May the God of peace, help you find peace, in your praying, in your singing and in your daily routines.
